Provision of School Toilets

We want to provide better living standards

In one case, the ratio of students to toilets was 139:1 in a school of 1250 children

Toilet facilities for students leave a lot to be desired, both in terms of quantity and quality. This project seeks to bring some real improvements to the daily lives of thousands of children.

Where better toilets have been introduced to schools there is a recorded increase in the attendance of senior girls, reflecting the need for better facilities.

The planned replacement toilets will be a copy of the blocks in secondary schools provided by UNICEF.

Bwengu Projects Malawi, using community labour, can provide improved toilets at a realistic price. On advice from community leaders, these projects commenced in April 2018.

Bwengu Projects Malawi is a small, family run registered charity (England & Wales number 1183709) run by Sue & Tony Melia together with their daughter Samantha, son-in-law Rob and granddaughter Abi.

Each year we identify, fund raise and undertake various education and community projects in Northern Malawi.
